MCC works under the guidance of the DGHS (Director General of Health Services), Ministry of Health and Medical Science, Government of India. Mostly, the counselling starts after some days of the NEET exam. The seats are allotted on the basis of marks scored in the NEET, All India Rank, reservation eligibility, and preference list of candidates. Through counseling, MCC facilitates admissions in government, deemed, and central universities, managing the All India Quota (AIQ) seats in government medical and dental colleges. Through its continuous efforts, MCC has upheld the reservation policies for various categories like SC, ST, OBC, EWS, and PWD. Roles of MCC

Some important roles of the MCC are given below:

Maintenance of the official websites: The committee is responsible for regular updates regarding the counselling procedure and other important information on the website.
Managing the counselling procedure: As is clear from the name, the committee manages the whole counselling procedure.
Coordination with relevant departments for counselling: MCC conducts counselling for 15% of All India Quota seats. It keeps coordinating with different states and union territories for the allotment of seats.
Any other task related to counselling and seat allocation based on the All India Quota, such as managing counselling centers and making essential arrangements at them, fixing counselling costs and deposits, etc.

Counselling by MCC

As stated earlier, MCC under DGHS conducts the following counselling for UG level, PG level, and super specialty courses.

At the UG level, MCC conducts counselling for the following institutes and universities:

15% All India Quota seats of MBBS and BDS seats of all states (participation of the Union Territory of J&K is subject to their contribution of seats).
100% MBBS/BDS seats at Banaras Hindu University.
100% MBBS seats at All India Institute of Medical Sciences across India.
100% Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research seats (Puducherry and Karaikal).
100% Aligarh Muslim University.
85% of State Quota seats are at Delhi University and Indraprastha University (VMMC, ABVIMS, and ESIC Dental).
15% IP quota seats in ESIC.

At the PG level, MCC conducts counselling for the following institutes and universities:

50% AIQ seats of all states (participation of the Union Territory of J&K is subject to their contribution of seats).
100% seats of Central Universities like Aligarh Muslim University, Banaras Hindu University, University of Delhi, Central Institutes) as per eligibility conditions as provided by the respective college or institute.
100% seats at deemed universities.
50% of all India Quota post-graduation seats in colleges under the Employee State Insurance Corporation (wards of ESIC-insured persons).
Armed Forces Medical Services Institutes (only registration part).

Counselling Procedure

After the declaration of the NEET 2024 result, the counselling for various seats will start soon. The general outline of counselling procedure is given below.

Registration: Those candidates who have cleared the NEET 2024 are eligible for counselling. They need to register themselves on the MCC website.
Choice filling and locking: Candidates have to select the institutes according to their rank in NEET 2024. It is very important to select and lock the choices before the last date.
Seat Allotment: Based on the AIR, institute selection, and reservation policies, seats are allotted to different institutes.
Result Declaration: The Medical Counselling Committee declares the result after every round of counselling on its website.
