Those aspirants who want to pursue medical courses after class 12th are quite familiar with the National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test, NEET. Most of the aspirants who aspire to become MBBS or pursue some other medical course through NEET start preparing for NEET from class 11th. But the real challenge for aspirants comes when they have to balance NEET along with board exams. Managing both exams together is a really tough challenge, as both NEET and board exams have different formats, but success in both exams is necessary for admission to medical college. Generally, board exams are scheduled from February to March/April for every board, whereas NEET is conducted in the first week of May, due to which a lot of aspirants may feel like they don’t get enough time after board exams to prepare/revise for NEET, and hence most of them prioritize one over the other. As said above, both exams are important for selection in medical colleges, therefore aspirants must know how to manage NEET preparation along with board exam.

As per some reports, half of the aspirants who appear in NEET successfully crack it along with the board exams. This is proof of the fact that with proper planning and dedication, aspirants can excel in NEET along with board exams.  In this blog, MENIIT will share some tips for the NEET aspirants to manage NEET preparation along with board exams.

Tips to prepare for NEET along with board exam

Some tips that would be useful for the aspirants who are appearing in NEET 2025 along with board exams

  • Strengthen the fundamentals: To clear any exam, it is important to have a solid basic foundation. NCERT textbooks for Physics, Chemistry, and Biology are the best source to strengthen your basics for NEET as well as for the board exams. These books provide detailed explanations of various concepts that are useful for NEET as well as board exams. Aspirants should develop a habit of studying NCERT daily as well as making notes, highlighting important points, and solving the practice problems provided.
  • Get the update syllabus: Generally, the syllabus of NEET and the board exam doesn’t vary a lot, but since the NEET syllabus consists of topics from classes 11 and 12, it becomes important that aspirants get the updated syllabus and focus on the topics that are common in both NEET as well as board exams.
  • Understand the exam pattern: Both NEET and board exams have different exam patterns. It is of utmost importance for the aspirants to understand both exam patterns. NEET is an objective-type exam, whereas in a board exam, students have to write the answers in the answer sheet. In NEET, each question carries +4 marks, whereas every wrong response fetches -1 mark, whereas in board exams, every section has different marks.  NEET is out of 720 marks; board exams are out of 100 marks (theory + practical). NEET is one of the most competitive examinations in India, whereas the competition in board exams is not that hard.
  • Prepare a realistic time schedule: A realistic time schedule helps the aspirants to distribute their time to each subject, and it also helps them to prioritize the weak subjects. This way aspirants can prepare all the subjects without getting overburdened and burned out.
  • Prepare notes and revise them regularly: For any exam, be it NEET or board exams, handwritten notes play a very crucial role. But just note-making is not enough; candidates should regularly revise their notes. These notes become a very useful source of information before the examination. Students should mark the important concepts using different-colored pens or with sticky notes so that they can quickly go through those important points before the exam. Aspirants should also keep an eye on important concepts that can be asked as MCQs and highlight them using different pens/highlighters.
  • Time Management: Time management is an art, and aspirants should know how to master this art before preparation for any exam. Adjusting time for self-study is a great challenge for school-going students who are preparing for competitive examinations like NEET. To overcome this challenge, aspirants should prepare two flexible schedules, one for NEET and the other for board exams, and depending upon the next big event, aspirants can choose to follow either.
  • Don’t forget previous year papers: Previous year papers serve as a great tool to understand the level and type of questions that are being asked in the exams. Aspirants should practice the previous year’s papers before appearing in the exam.
  • Mock test: Attempting a mock test boosts confidence as well as keeps a check on the weaker topics. Aspirants should not wait for the last moment to attempt the mock test. Attempting mock tests on a regular basis and revising the weak topics helps in solidifying the concepts required for NEET as well as in board exams.
  • Focus on NEET, except one month before exam: Aspirants should keep their focus on NEET, as this would be helpful for the board exams also; however, one month before the board exams, aspirants should dedicatedly prepare for the board exams.
  • Focus on topics which overlap: There are many topics in class 12th that are common in both NEET as well as board exams; aspirants should focus more on such topics while preparing for board exams, as these would be helpful for NEET also.
  • Stay consistent and disciplined: Consistency is the key to success. Aspirants should stay consistent with their studies even if the results are not up to the expectations.
  • Take care of health: To excel in any examination, aspirants should not ignore their health; rather, it should be the prime focus of aspirants along with the exam. Eating good food, taking care of health, eating healthy food, and getting proper sleep help aspirants to stay fit and healthy. Also, aspirants should avoid taking on unnecessary stress.

Balancing NEET along with board exams seems challenging, but it is doable with the right strategy and a balanced approach. By understanding the syllabus, exam pattern, and prioritizing the tasks, utilizing resources smartly, creating a realistic timetable, and practicing regularly, aspirants can clear both exams with flying colors.

Best of luck to all the aspirants!!!
