NTA is soon going to announce the new calendar for NEET 2025. The calendar would have all the important dates, like the starting date of registrations, last date of registration, last date of fee submission, etc. Along with that, there would be some other updates. We anticipate significant changes in NEET in 2025. In this blog, we’ll see the changes that are expected in NEET 2025 and their reasons.
NEET 2025 Changes
As we know, there were certain issues in NEET 2024, like paper leaks and irregularities. In response to this, a committee was formed under former ISRO Chief K. Radhakrishnan. Other members of the committee include Dr. Randeep Guleria, former director of AIIMS-Delhi; B.J. Rao, vice chancellor, University of Hyderabad; Ramamurthy K., professor emeritus, department of civil engineering, IIT-Madras; Pankaj Bansal, Karmayogi Bharat Board; Aditya Mittal, professor, IIT-Delhi; and Govind Jaiswal, joint secretary, ministry of education.
The committee will submit its report to the Supreme Court soon. On October 21, the Supreme Court gave an additional time of two weeks for the submission of the report. As per the recent updates, the committee provided several recommendations in front of the Division Bench consisting of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, Justice JB Padriwala, and Manoj Mishra to streamline the functioning of the NTA and bring greater accountability for conducting exams. However, NTA has not released any official update on these changes.
Key proposal of the committee
To address the complexities and prepare the report, the committee held 22 meetings. It also sought suggestions from parents and students and took into account more than 37,000 suggestions. The committee has proposed the following reforms.
- Multi Stage exam: The committee suggested a multistage examination just like JEE in order to handle a large number of NEET-UG candidates. This would help in better management and assessment of the candidates.
- Hybrid Testing and Online Examination: The committee recommended online examination, wherever possible, and a hybrid model of examination where online examination is not possible. Hybrid means that the question papers would reach the exam center in digital format and candidates would mark the answer on paper.
- Increasing the staff: The committee recommended increasing the manpower in order to conduct the examination smoothly.
- Limiting the number of attempts: As of now, there are no fixed number of attempts per candidate. But now the committee has recommended limiting the number of attempts. This would help the candidates to prepare thoroughly, making the exam fairer. Also, this would reduce the number of applicants, which in turn would help in managing the examination process smoothly and flawlessly.
- Discouraging the use of private examination centres: The committee has recommended to discourage the use of private centres for NEET 2025 and onwards.
- Streamlining the number of CUET subject choices: The committee has advised reducing the number of subjects under CUET, as students often retake the subjects that they have already completed in board exams.
- Adopting SOP to maintain the integrity of the exam: As of now, NTA doesn’t have any Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) to conduct the examination, due to which there were instances of tampering with the OMR sheets by the examiners. Hence, the court has ordered the committee to formulate a standard operating procedure relating to the conduct of examination.
- Review the process of allotment of examination centres: Many parents and students have highlighted the issue of allotment of exam centres far away from their location. The committee reviewed the process by which exam centres are allotted and recommended changes for greater transparency.
- Strengthening the Data Security: The committee has highlighted the importance of improving data security. It suggested that NTA should reduce the dependency on outside centres. This includes having greater control over exam administration, the establishment of more exam centres, etc.
These were some of the recommendations by the K. Radhakrishnan committee. Other than this, the committee has not recommended any change. If there is any change in the exam pattern, removal of questions like JEE, or change of syllabus, it will be notified in the official notification by NTA.
Best of luck to all the NEET aspirants !!
