How should I prepare for NEET Chemistry?

Dear Aspirants,

Are you concerned about chemistry preparation for NEET?

Today in this blog post, we will discuss the important tips to prepare Chemistry for NEET. Additionally, we will address some frequently asked questions related to NEET Chemistry Preparation.

There are two types of chapters in Chemistry, ones which require numerical practice and others which will require understanding and memorizing facts.

Preparation is hence sub-divided into three parts:

Preparation is hence sub-divided into three parts

Physical Chemistry

For numerical chapters that belong to Physical Chemistry, you will have to practice a greater number of questions. This will include tasks in the following order:

  • Prepare a list of formulae and learn them thoroughly
  • Now, start solving questions independently without a time constraint.
  • Slowly and gradually decrease the time and start doing calculations faster.
  • Finally, arrive at a speed of solving questions where you solve one question per minute.
  • Good mental Maths, learning short tricks from your teachers, and approximation skills, which also include techniques such as the method of elimination and back-solving help. These will be elaborated upon in my next excerpt.

Tips to Prepare Organic and Inorganic Chemistry

For chapters that belong to Organic and Inorganic Chemistry, the techniques are relatively different so I’ll go one by one:

Organic Chemistry

  • For Organic Chemistry, you need to know how the reactions occur, although we do not need to know intricate details. But yes, we need an understanding of how things are happening, hence strengthening your General Organic Chemistry (GOC).
  • Spending more time on this will increase understanding of the rest of science.
  • Make a list of Organic Reactions and learn them as pinpoints. It’s important to know the list amidst so many reactions.
  • Practicing more questions will always help. This will also ensure that you come across most of the exceptions, where rules don’t work.

Inorganic Chemistry

Inorganic Chemistry should be done very thoroughly and only from the NCERT Material so that actually makes work easier.

Make short notes from the NCERT Material and learn them. This is a good bit of memorization work, but achievable as the content volume is now restricted only to the NCERT.

Which chapters to read and which can get less of our attention will be discussed in my forthcoming analysis on “Chemistry NEET Weightage: Which chapter got how many questions in previous year’s NEET exams in the Chemistry Section?”.

Quick Tips to Strengthen Chemistry for NEET

Quick Tips to Strengthen Chemistry for NEET

Always remember that the best and most effective way to enhance your chemistry knowledge is to understand, memorise, practice, and revise. It is advisable to practice NEET PYQs to grasp the concepts.

To enhance your speed and accuracy, solve a mock test on a daily basis and also give time to analyse mock tests in order to identify your mistakes and get them rectified before the exam.

NEET Classroom Courses

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Ques. 1 How do I start preparation for NEET Chemistry?

Ans: It all depends on which class and course you have started studying in. I’ll be descriptive for all students here. If you are beginning a two-year course, then your primary aim should be to not miss any classes and prepare elaborate notes. Ensure that you are solving an ample number of questions in every sub-topic and asking your doubts properly. Once your chapter is done, it is important to go for a test to understand where you are lacking.

If you are a one-year (XII Pass) student, then by now you would be well aware of your strong and weak chapters. It becomes important for you to ask more questions, especially from your weak chapters. Ask your doubts and give lots and lots of tests. As there is just one year, focus more on problem solving and testing consequently and you should be good.

Ques. 2 How many hours should I study Chemistry for NEET?

Ans: There are no specific number of hours, it all depends on how fast you grasp and assimilate topics. For those students who can absorb concepts faster, about 1 – 1.5 hours daily for chemistry should be good if you are from a two-year course. If your concept absorption takes some more time then 1.5 – 2 hours should be fine too. Considering that you have your school work and have other subjects too, doing chemistry on alternate days will also do.

A word of caution for those students who typically find chemistry tough and relatively unmanageable, you will have to devote time to Chemistry every day. Practice more and learn concepts carefully in the presence of your teacher and your Chemistry shall surely improve.

Ques. 3 How can I score well in NEET Chemistry?

Ans: Good practice of questions and getting your doubts solved immediately, will ensure that the preparation process is going on without hindrance. Additionally, sitting for full tests and/or joining a test series course will ensure that all that you have understood is being calibrated in terms of marks, at the same time your speed is being developed also. Good practice of questions coupled with good testing is a sure-shot way to score well in Chemistry.

Ques. 4 How can I memorize Chemistry for NEET?

Ans: Chemistry is a conceptual subject, but some areas, such as Inorganic Chemistry, might require portions that need to be memorized. Make neat and clean, elaborate notes in these areas, and try creating some mnemonics or make short flow charts to remember topics. I am sure your teacher will help you do this. Memorizing topics in chemistry should not be difficult also because nearly all topics have a strong logic behind them. Conceptual areas are generally easier to memorize as they have a lot of reasons flanking them.
